Murph Construction

This residential addition and renovation consisted of new two-story wings on both the east and west sides which now frame the main block of the existing residence.  The existing one-story elements in these locations were removed completely. These additions have a lower roof line and crenelated dormers allowing the existing main block of the residence to sit proud and prominent.

Consistency of matching materials was maintained with the use of brick, stone banding, shutters, and new windows of equal scale and proportion. Extraordinary measures were taken to match the existing brick and mortar throughout.

The additions and alterations consisted of a family room, mudroom, rear stair, three car garage, guest suite, and master bedroom expansion. Existing interior plans were modified tying seamlessly into existing circulation flow.  Exterior alterations and restoration consisted of a roof and gutter replacement, molding restoration, new portico, and roof alteration at breakfast room.

Overall the addition was designed to complement the existing floor layout, adjacencies, and relationship to site and views.  The massing, materiality, and details allow this addition to be perceived as part of the original design of this residence.
